SEPTA is building a brand new Market-Frankford Line.
The $710 million Market Street Elevated Reconstruction Project, is approximately 90% complete and is dramatically
changing the look of West Philadelphia and eastern Delaware County. It includes
replacing 11,000 feet of El support structure, renovating six stations,
constructing two new train control buildings and other related improvements.
New Columns and Stations
At street level, a brand new streamlined structure
will greatly improve traffic flow, largely due to the elimination of one half of
the support columns that currently separate traffic lanes on Market Street. At
track level, SEPTA riders will enjoy new, brightly lit, colorful, stations
fully-accessible to those with disabilities.

Key Link in Market-Frankford Line Improvements
This project is part of a comprehensive, $1.5 billion revitalization program for the
Market-Frankford Line, which includes 220 new air-conditioned,
passenger-friendly El cars; modern, computer-driven Automatic Train Control
systems; in-station and in-car two-way communication systems; as well as new
tracks, structures and train control buildings.
